After 5 months of building a room onto our house, we are finally done. (Sorry I don’t have photo’s, but I will put them in this post as soon as I take them… 😉 ) The expense wasn’t a huge one, at least not enough to warrant a need for budgeting software. Even so, paying cash for everything was quite a drain on the wallet.
The wife and I did everything ourselves, so we saved money by not having to hire a contractor come do it for us. We did pay a friend of mine $500 because he was going to “help us”. I thought that by helping us, he was gonna do the roofing and the drywall, but he didn’t seem to think so. Apparently $500 is only worth standing up 3 walls, and holding the sheeting while I nailed it. That $500 was a waste, but that was all we wasted.
I did all of the outside by myself pretty much, and did the drywall on the inside also. The wife helped me hang a few pieces on the ceiling which was a pain in the butt. She did all of the painting, picked out the carpet, and made curtains. Curtains for the window, and curtains for the closet.
All in all, it is a really nice job, and I couldn’t be prouder of myself and my wife. There is just something about doing a job yourself that makes you feel good inside. 🙂
