A woman said she was so worried about reports of tainted pet food she spent more than $1,000 buying all the product she could find at her local Wal-Mart. Margaret Trask said she filled a shopping cart full of canned pet food made by Canadian company Menu Foods at the Beaufort Wal-Mart after hearing about the recall Friday.
She returned Wednesday morning to buy more food and came back that night to buy even more, but Trask said store officials asked her to leave. She said store employees were taking some of the food off the shelves.
Trask plans to throw the food away so no animals eat it. She figures she spent more than $1,000.
Some of the 60 million cans and pouches of food have been blamed for kidney failure in scores of animals and killed at least 16 pets.
Not all the food Trask bought was included in the recall.
Trask also took out classified ads in at least two local newspapers, listing all off the recall pet food brands.
“A lot of people don’t know about the recall,” Trask said. “I don’t know what else to do.”

Thank you for your love and compassion
I applaud this woman for trying to help. I have a dear friend who is about to lose her precious cat to kidney disease because of this tainted pet food. She has already spent over $500 at the vet and is frantic about the rising cost of keeping Sneezer (her kitty) alive. A lot of people simply do not understand that pets become part of your family and it hurts so much to lose them. I was very blessed – I have 2 cats and 2 dogs and none of the foods they eat are on the lists.
What this lady did is GREAT, but WHY did she have to do it?? Other sellers of the taninted food pulled it from their shelves as soon as it was recalled, why didn’t Walmart?? Do they REALLT need to make more money at the expense of our pets? This to me is just one more reason not to shop Walmart!!
Thank you Margaret, the world needs a million or two more kind hearts like you. I salute you.
This Post about The Lady Trying To Buy All The Bad Pet Food Off The Shelf From Wal-Mart Should NOT BE FILED UNDER FUNNY STUFF NEWS…..AND IF I FIND OUT AOL DID THIS, I PLAN TO CANCEL MY ACCOUNT WITH THEM! THIS IS VERY SERIOUS! MY CAT HAS MAYBE ANOTHER DAY TO LIVE! MY SON WHO IS NOW A US MARINE DOESN’T KNOW HIS CAT IS DYING! IT’S HIS CAT.
I DO NOT PLAN TO TELL HIM ANYTIME SOON.
AND AS FOR WAL-MART THEY HAVE ENOUGH EMPLOYEES; THEY COULD HAVE REMOVED ALL OF THAT BAD FOOD RIGHT AWAY!
THANK YOU FOR READING. SUE
She is very passionate about animals. Today, there are not so many people which are so kind. 😕
That is very true.
It is sad to know so many pets have affected. I really hope the manufactures would really do the right thing in the future. 👿
I think as an animal lovers, we should educate ourselves on how to read labels on pet foods so we know whether the ingredients in the pet food are good for our pets or not. We just cannot wait for the press to release information as it may be a bit late sometimes. My deepest sympathy to all the pet owners which affected by this tragedy! 😥
