    😛 Please feel free to name away! Doesn’t bother me. It would just bother folks with no sense of humor. 😉 Of Course, if you keep going, you’re going to up to your ears in dogs.

    That’s a great name, too. The teddy bear, as I understand it, was actually named after Teddy Roosevelt, the 26th president of the United States. Wikipedia gives the reason as follows:

    “Roosevelt’s lasting popular legacy, however, is the stuffed toy bears—teddy bears—named after him following an incident on a hunting trip in 1902. Roosevelt famously refused to kill a captured black bear simply for the sake of making a kill. Bears and later bear cubs became closely associated with Roosevelt in political cartoons thereafter.”

    Not a bad legacy, actually, and I am given to understand that the rather enjoyed the connection to the stuffed animal.

    The Christian faith believes that Jesus is the “messenger” of God. Do you know how many people in the world are named Jesus? A LOT.

    It’s a name…that is all.

  7. omg i just read an article in the paper about some teacher who named their classroom bear mohamed or something and got in trouble for it. i wish i could find a link to it.

    @mohamed
    are you serious? I cant even believe people can be that sensitive. I think Shakespeare’s “what’s in a name…” rings true here. In all these cases, it isnt the name itself but what it stands for, I dont think any names should be given any reverance. It’s a combination of letters to make a sound. Here it stands for a bear. When the name is used to refer to a diety or holy figure then sure, but here it’s just a bear. And actually I think many people wouldn’t mind if you named your dog after their mothers.

    That article is true. That story was obviously the inspiration for this simple blog post.

  9. I’d like to know why people can have the name Mohamed and that is not viewed as disrespectful…doesn’t make sense to me!

  10. Mohammed was a prophet, a man. If Allah has a problem with people naming things after his prophet, don’t you think he’s has the ability to do something about it? This stuff is crazy.
