Damned Swedes

Random Unrelated Image: Chubbies!

It’s raining outside and I got my pants really wet. From the rain of course! There’s nothing quite as shitty as wearing damp pants (unless you’re wearing shitty pants.) It can really ruin your day. Like when you were a kid, and you went to McDonalds for some Chicken McNuggets. Sometimes you’d get half-perfectly cooked nuggets, and half overcooked slimy ones. But every now and again, there was the all-slime McNugget meal. This is like a day filled with slimy Chicken McNuggets, and one of those McLobster sandwiches washed down with some yummy hornet juice. Then getting kicked in the balls by some Swedish guy. Damned Swedes.

  1. Well if it makes you feel any better it is currently raining in Switzerland as well.

I don’t know if the picture that accompanies this entry is of WV; but you would be suprised how similar the terrain, plants and such are here in the good ol Swiss Republic. Sometimes when I am out hiking I forget where I am until someone greets me with a pleasant Bonjour or Guten Tag.

  2. Oh, wow! I’m missing the WV state fair?!?!? That’s depressing. I used to go every year as a kid.

OK, I have a favor to ask. Are you going? There’s this guy who makes those personalized wood signs using a router (I think). Anyway, his name is “Twerp” Reeves. I don’t remember his little business name on his trailer. He was always right against the back of the grandstand. Anyway, he’s my step-uncle. If he’s there, tell him “Heavy” said hello! 🙂

  3. Yeah I remember when I was a kid we always got to go on the first Friday, because it was ride all day for one price, but like you said, it rained at least every other year.

As for Guten Tag! I don’t know if I told you? But Switzerland has three official languages (German, French, and Italian), and one unofficial language Romansh. Guten Tag is the formal form of hello in German.

We live on the border of the French and German speaking regions, so there is some blending. However, it gets even more complicated. During the 20th century the German speaking region attempted to differentiate themselves from Germany by developing their own spoken form of German known as Swiss German. While I can understand and speak some high German, I cannot make heads or tails out of Swiss German.

  4. I remember the sign guy. His shop was in one of those small trailers, such as one would use to sell hot dogs and such.

I think I recall he did use some sort of specialized router table to carve out address plates and the like.

  5. Well we are coming back for two weeks at Christmas, and then we will be back for good sometime in late February. I might have to come back before the end of February, it just depends on what we decide about our living arrangements. Right now we are homeless as far as the US is concerned. We put all of our furniture and such into a storage unit in Pittsburgh, and our cat, cars, and valuable stuff is spread between our parents respectively.

I want to build a house, but we cannot decide if we are going to stay in Pittsburgh or not. I would prefer to move either further north into New Hampshire or Vermont, or conversly, south toward Charlottesville, VA, or Asheville, NC.

Then their is another 12,000 pound monkey (I know I just butchered that saying) hanging around our necks, and that is Jennifer’s company is building a new plant in Singapore, and I have a sneaking suspicion they are going to offer her a global controllership job at it. I think that is probably the reason they where so kean on her coming over here for this assinment–to get applicable experience.

Oh, by the way. If you need a truck for anything mine is at my mother’s house. Just let me know.

  6. I would love, love, love to live in Vermont or New Hampshire. They just appear to be such peaceful states. Maine is also on my wish list. As long as I could live near Bangor and hang out at Stephen King’s favorite haunts all of the time. The winters might be a little longer there, but as you know, they’re not too short here.

Singapore huh? You guys might get to see the whole world before you’re even retirement age.

I’ll keep that in mind about the truck. I bought an S-10 from my brother in law back in October of last year and recently sold it, so I will definitely need one to haul my wood pellets in. I don’t even remember what kind of truck you have. Can I put a ton in the bed, or do I need to use my trailer? I had to use my trailer with the S-10, obviously.

  7. I’ve got a Toyota Tacoma. I don’t think you could haul a ton on it. I hauled 800 pounds of stone veneer on it and it did ok, but I think a full ton would be pushing it. In addition, it doesn’t have a trailer hitch. I have one laying over at Jennifer’s dad’s house, but I haven’t had a chance to put it on.

However, I do have another solution. We still have that diesel F250. You are welcome to use it, but you will have to get it sometime when my dad is around. Just give me a heads up about a week before you need it and I will get in touch with him and make the arrangements. Actually, it would good for someone to get some use out of it. My grandfather can’t get in and out of it anymore, nor can he change the gears (it has a super heavy duty clutch that just about takes both feet to push in). I just hope you don’t have to go to far because it only gets about 14 mpg, and when we left diesel was like $4.75 a gallon.

  8. I can always use dads trailblazer, but I have to use the trailer. I just hate using the trailer because every time I go over a railroad track the shocks fall off it from where the hangers and the crossmember is so rusted. I don’t really see the point of shocks on a trailer anyway.

  9. I don’t know where you have to go to get them, but my truck gets fairly good gas mileage (about 24mpg), so if you need to you could haul five hundred pounds at a time or so. If you are going to get them over around Lewisburg or Ronceverte you can drive my truck to work for a week and pick some up each day.

I have never seen a trailer with shocks. Most of them have either a torsion axle or an axle with springs. My dad has a four-wheeler trailer, but I don’t know what the weight raiting on it is. I know I hualed about 20 bundles of shingles on it when I built my cabin. I think a bundle of shingles weighs about 90 pounds.

If you where going to get a whole bunch of pellets you could take the F250 and the fifth wheel trailer. It will haul 24,000, but I don’t think the truck would pull that. I hauled a 12,000 pound dozer from Lewisburg to Beckley, and it is not something I wish to do again. Even with the turbo charged diesel I was going about 6mph by the time I got to the top of Sandstone.

Like I said just let me know, we can work something out. We have all of that stuff setting around; somebody should get some use out of it.
